Losing hair is a hereditary problem which occurs due to the excessive production of a hormone called Androgen. This hormone when undergoes an enzyme reaction gets converted into Dihydrotestostrone (DHT).
DHT reaches the hair follicles and gets bound to them. It squeezes the follicle and causes it to shrink, thereby cutting its blood supply as well. This shrunken follicle makes the hair go thinner and weaker.
The thin hair eventually falls off and the follicle also withers away. Since the follicle is shrunken and there is no blood getting supplied to it, it is not able to grow a new hair. Thus, the hair lost is never regained. This leads to Permanent Hair loss.
There is another common myth that Androgen being a male hormone is not present in women but that is not the case. Though in smaller quantity, but it is present in women too and that is the reason why every one in four women face this problem.
